Rich is a Co-Founder and Vice Chairman of ThayerMahan and the President of ThayerMahan Offshore, the fastest growing offshore services provider to the US Offshore Wind (USOW) industry and has led the company’s unprecedented growth in both capabilities and revenue in this arena.
After graduating from the US Naval Academy in 1982, Rich served with ThayerMahan co-founder Mike Connor aboard the nuclear submarine USS Pittsburgh (SSN720). Rich also served aboard the USS City of Corpus Christi (SSN705) and qualified submarines and nuclear engineer before leaving the Navy in 1987.
In the private sector, Rich has had an extensive business career across a number of industries including real estate development, commercial and residential construction, and retail sales. He has supervised start-up business ventures and has extensive experience in capital formation, finance, and budgeting. He also served as a School Board trustee and President for nine years, managing a $50M budget for 3,000 students and over 300 faculty and staff. Rich earned his master’s degree at Yale University. Rich’s extensive experience in the construction industry has translated remarkably to the offshore services/construction industry growth of TMO.
During ThayerMahan’s formative years, Rich initiated the implementation of business systems, capital formation, risk management procedures, and financial management. As the head of the ThayerMahan Offshore, Rich is tasked with developing capabilities, business strategy, and business development in the growing US offshore wind and energy markets. Specifically, Rich has developed TMO into the leading offshore service provider to the USOW industry. TMO is currently the market leader in Marine Mammal Monitoring using Passive Acoustics, Acoustic Mitigation with Big Bubble Curtains, and domestic/commercial UXO remediation services. TMO also offers extensive survey and imaging services, cable preparation services and seabed salvage services.
Rich remains connected to his Navy roots and the submarine service. He, and his wife Mary, are natives of Long Island, NY, and the parents of seven children – five of whom currently serve on active duty in the US military.
