Mike Connor's panel topic:
Observing with Acoustics for Ocean Ecosystem Health and Biodiversity
November 17, 2020
8:45 AM - 9:30 AM PT
Ocean acoustic techniques allow for rapid and repeated measurement of ocean properties over large areas due to the speed with which sound travels in water. Ocean acoustics is beneficial in areas difficult to install equipment. Learn how companies are using acoustics applications in a variety of ways including seabed profiling, offshore oil and gas industries, oceanography and research, defense and law enforcement agencies. Case studies in how acoustics solve challenges faced by weather and climate observation, seismic exploration, environmental monitoring, and communications for underwater vehicles and sensors.
Rich Hine's panel topic:
Combatting IUU
November 19, 2020
8:00 AM - 8:45 AM PT
Discussion on global illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and how BlueTech companies are helping combat this increasing issue.
Steve Link's topic:
Sunken Vessels & UXO
November 19, 2020
10:30 AM - 11:15 AM PT
Some 75% of sunken wrecks date back to the Second World War. The warships contain unexploded ordnance and discarded munitions which pose multiple threats including leaking toxins that can contaminate the food chain and are barriers to seabed infrastructure. Current weather intensity is causing storms to sink ships in harbors in hurricanes' path leading to disruption of ecosystems and long-term issues. In order to safely protect marine habitats, detect, and treat sunken vessels and UXO, many BlueTech companies integrate the most current technology applications. Hear how these BlueTech companies are collecting data, protecting sensitive marine environments, and handling these ocean floor challenges.
