Groton, Connecticut (08 July 2019) – Captain Kevin Lopes, US Coast Guard (retired) joined ThayerMahan, Inc., a Groton, CT maritime systems and services company. CAPT Lopes served in a wide range of positions during his during his 27-year Coast Guard career, including command of USCGC Kiska (WPB-1336), based in Hilo, HI. Kevin also served as navigator aboard the US Navy destroyer USS Cushing (DD-985). In addition to his extensive sea experience Lopes served ashore as search and rescue controller, planning director, response operations director, incident commander and finance section chief for the Deepwater Horizon unified response. Kevin finished his service as a policy manager at USCG HQ in Washington, DC and at the US Coast Guard Academy.
Kevin was awarded the Department of Homeland Security's CFO Award for Superior Mission Achievement as the Financial Policy and Internal Resources Division Director and led the USCGA management school as a Professor of Management. A 1992 graduate of the US Coast Guard Academy, Lopes earned an MBA from Loyola University New Orleans and a doctorate in Management and Business Administration at Boston University's Questrom School of Business.
Kevin's leadership, experience and expertise in USCG operations will help ThayerMahan better serve its USCG/DHS/USN clients and his extensive experience in the Gulf of Mexico AOR will provide invaluable insights as the company expands its portfolio of Energy services to the Wind and Oil&Gas Industries in that region - and the waters of New England.
